At the Dutch centre for fusion research FOM Rijnhuizen, a dedicated experiment has been built to see how the wall of a fusion reactor will stand up to the plasma conditions in the future reactor ITER. Magnum-PSI is the first device to recreate all the relevant plasma parameters in one easily accessible device.

Fusion reactors of the tokamak type feature intense hot plasmas hitting the reactor wall near the so-called divertor - the helium exhaust. Understanding the interactions between the plasma and this surface is of vital importance to make future fusion reactors a success.

  • @mytube226 - The moving part is a mirror. When the magnets are off, it's used to project a laser into the vacuum vessel, to align various components. When the magnet switches on, the mirror moves a bit (it's mounted via a metallic spring).

    @SundastanBrasov: wow, that's a lot of text! Not sure what you mean, though. Looks like you don't believe tokamaks work? They do! Over 200 have been built, increasingly more powerful. JET can produce as much power as it consumes, ITER will perform 10x better.

    The test for nuclear fusion realisation on Tokamak's installations and with LASER cannot bring anything new for the energetics' future.     The spherical thermonuclear combustion chamber is formed from two joined semispherical parts. The feeding with fuel and electromagnetic filed flux it make through the oriffices from the central part of the semispheres, and the emergence in outside to the electromagnetic field flux it make through the maximum zone, where is joined the semispheres.     Thus, with a sure magnetic trap, without switchs of heat and with the direct extraction to the electrical energy=to the particles of electrical ether, it can pass direct at the final phase of obtaining to the commercial controlled thermonuclear reactor. I consider that the price of research and realization in this case, can be of at least 10 times more small than the actual ITER project, and separated can be realized of many countries.

    In the magnetic trap of the tokamak it produce only magnetic field which it maintain in the round of the coil, without to fulfil the role of magnetic trap. The electromagnetic field can evolve(go) in space and in the interior of one spherical chamber, can be weaved in order to form a stratified network, which let hold the particles of the thermonuclear plasma.
