Tracks "Risus Sativus" and "Hymnus Dianae" from Pugnate album.

Musica Romana is a well-known, internationally-acclaimed music ensemble dedicated to recreating the Ancient Roman music. Among other things, their music was featured the Europa Barbarorum, a video game mod for Rome: Total War. The Pugnate (Latin: fight!) album recreates the music at the gladiatorial games of Imperial Rome.

I do not claim any part of this video is mine and this music belongs to Music Romana. I have noticed YouTube lacks any examples of their work, so I thought it would be splendid if more people discovered this cultural treasure. If you like this music, be sure to support Musica Romana by purchasing their albums here: http://tinyurl.com/ykxboxx (Google Translated from German) or by emailing at preorder@musica-romana.de for information on how to order from the US. Remember, the more we support the group, the more successful and productive they can be!

  • This is very melodic. In what settings might this music have been performed? Also, where is there an archive of such music or other audio vestigaes of Roman culture?

Thank you for performing a useful service and adding beauty from the roman civilzation to our own.

  • @ScipioAfricanusI

Music archive? I could PM you a download link with all of my ancient music on Dropbox that I have uploaded... Plenty of people ask for that, so I posted quite a while ago.

Setting? Most music was in the Pugnate album was performed in either private parties or in various stages of the Games. This one would fit into the former category.

  • @janedoe1026

may work..! :) but i don't think all the romans could stay quiet!! ahaha (I'm roman) :D

  • @neonenour89 Yes, due to the way a Colosseum was built and the acoustics in a way amplified the sound so the crowd could hear music or speeches and the such. Hope that helps. :)

  • Do you really think it was possible to HEAR this weak music in a huge stadium like the colosseum??

  • Looks like 1 person watches Rebecca Black to much.

  • @neonenour89 Then this video is misleading.

  • @generalpatton3 Could you send me the link to the ancient music too? =)
