Brahms, Intermezzo Op.118/6 played by Backhaus and Kempff

Wilhelms Backhaus and Kempff reveal their very different musical temperaments in these performances of Brahms's Intermezzo in E-flat minor Op.118/6. The differences are perhaps at their most striking in the more animated middle section.

Backhaus's recording was made in 1932, Kempff's in 1963 and the recorded sound of the latter is markedly superior!

the best part b [middle section] is played by richter at leipzig gewandhaus imo.

but nonetheless although i like kempff more with schumann this is a great rendition...his brahms,well i miss the dark colours.what a pity that the backhaus-recording made 1932 is of poor tonal quality.

5* for the video.I like to compare the same opus in different performances and here 'paulprocopolis' made it easy for me in one video.Both pianists are great ,Kempff is closer to my musical sensibility
