Mary and I wanted to discover the sex of our baby in a fun and creative way. We asked our ultrasound woman to write down two numbers, one that only I would see and one that only Mary would see. If the numbers add up to an EVEN number than it's a GIRL. If the numbers add up to an ODD number than it's a BOY.
Then we each went to separate places to get some ice cream/frozen yogurt. If our number was ODD then we were supposed to get something with CHOCOLATE topping. If our number was EVEN then we were supposed to get something with FRUIT topping.
Then when we came together and each pulled out our ice cream, we would both discover at the same instant whether we're having a boy or girl. Basically if we both had the SAME topping (chocolate or fruit) then it's a GIRL, but if we had DIFFERENT toppings (one chocolate, one fruit) then it's a BOY.
(Sound familiar? It's a lot like the way X and Y chromosomes work in determining sex. Two of the same (XX) and it's a girl. Two different ones (XY) and it's a boy.)
