I know that. He didn't talk because he got a bad review and his voice didn't fit his character. He called himself "the most fortunate self-taught harpist and non-speaking actor who has ever lived." I misquoted him, sorry.

Adolph Arthur "Harpo" Marx was not mute. Not saying a word, like Dopey in Snow White, not saying anything is his schtick (for Dopey it's not that he can't talk; he just never tried). Somewhere in this vast world they call the internet I found a short recording of Harpo speaking. THAT is more novel than even his musical skills. So yeah. He wasn't mute in real life. Just on screen.
