  • 25:01-25:15. Does it remind anyone else part of the theme of a most famous Christmas carrol?

  • @gkollias14 I agree almost completely with you, but I recently listened to a wonderful comparison on youtube under "comparison of the beginning of Schubert's Piano Sonata No. 21 B flat D 960", and especially at Judina's at the end ... no words ... I was thinking if there is any possible historical connection between her and Richter (maybe she was his teacher?): although very different, to me they seem to have a similar approach to this musical monument

  • When a young pianist played the first movement of this sonata without taking the repeats, Richter asked him after the recital "Aren't you ashamed?" Richter was relentless in observing repeats!

  • @pugay69 Perhaps it is too slow for some, but it seems to have won over Glenn Gould, who, by his own admission, was not a fan of Schubert.

  • I cannot find any greater interpreter for this piece. Richter as a being perfectly suites this piece.

  • Stunning

  • The very best - all others seem to go by comparison...Here we have interpretation and technique at the absolute service of the composer and so much bettered by a live performance: I cite both Brendel and Schiff as being the text-book players of lacking insight.

  • this the best interpretation, i 've ever heard on that piece. moved to tears.

  • @pugay69 To say it is ridiculous is, well...ridiculous. You might not agree with the interpretation, though it's hard to argue this is nothing less than a monumental deliverance of Schubert's Sonata by Richter - regardless of the tempo. Were you or I to perform Schubert at this speed, we'd more than likely fail to 'convince'; Richter, on the other hand, seems to have a rather firm handle on this work - at this speed.
