ABBA fans, here is the rare unreleased ABBA recording of "Svea Svea".
As mentioned in "Abba for the record", the recording was started in July, 1971, with "dummy" Swedish lyrics. ABBA never finished the song, or wrote proper lyrics for it. In 1974 ABBA simply erased their main lead vocal, leaving Agnetha and Frida's backing vocals, and their guitarist Rutger Gunnarsson simply added his lead vocal. It was released as Polar 1188, which puts it between the Swedish version of Waterloo 45, and the English version 45. The 45 is credited on the label to Rutger and the "Kvartetten Bröderna Brothers Trio"
(The brother brother's quartet trio) along with the "Viggsö Hafsartilleriregemente" (Viggsö Sea Artillery Regiment). This is
an "in-joke" because ABBA and Stig had summer-houses on Viggsö island.
Enjoy this rare treat by Rutger & ABBA!

  • This is cleary not ABBA and this is not funny.

  • @dh1267 It's ABBA indeed: Björn, Benny, Micke Tretow, and all their usual retinue of musicians. Rutger was their guitar player on their records and in concerts. ABBA decided not to finish the song (Happens all the time) and let Rutger finish and release it. The exact same happened with Svenne & Lotta's Funky Feet. Even the credits joke at ABBA's involvment.

  • This is unique! Being a norwegian, listening to this is great fun: Björn's lyrics is pure nonesense, addressing Alma Mater "Mother Sweden (Svea)" and asking what has happened with the nation: "Sister Norway" has discovered oil in the North Sea, and thus grows immensly rich all of a sudden (Norway used to be the poor neighbour). The ridiculous lyrics poke fun at swedes and their jealousy -but ABBAs vocals (recorded July 1971) are nice to hear; Rutgers falsetto is just hilarious! They had fun!

  • NORDIC TINY TIM!!

  • Thanks for posting this. It must be one of the most "unusual" Abba related videos or songs anywhere.

Rutger was of course a tower of strength in the Abba Band, their main strings arranger, long time bassist, played in all concerts and on all albums, and no matter how wild it got on stage, he was always a cool, collected anchor binding the band together with his fantastic bass ability.

  • haha, actually rutger was the bass player for abba, not guitarist

  • Funny and interesting :-)

  • my name is svea =)

  • Gillar felskrivningen av "och på dina ängder gröna folket myser" - "och på dina änder gröna folket nyser". :)

  • I had this record and found it was so horrible that I put it on Ebay and it sold for $73!

  • credo que lixo!
