Harvey Pack narrates Kelso's superb, then-American record of 3:19 2/5 in 1960, despite standing water on the track, along with his fine win in 1961.

  • my favorite horse of all time !

  • The greatest career of any horse in American racing in the second half of the 20th century, perhaps the entire century. The lack of venues for great distance horses like Kelso is one of things that I do not like about racing today. I think it is one factor for the lack of durability in horses American horses. Deep Impact had the Tenno Sho, Makybe Diva the Melbourne Cup, and Yeats the Ascot Gold Cup; today Kelso would have trouble finding races at 1 1/4 miles.
