The Organ Mountains serve as a perfect backdrop to Soledad Canyon Earth Builder's latest creation. This 2, 727 sq. ft. rammed earth home sits on the eastern side of Las Cruces, New Mexico. We have affectionately nicknamed this home "Casa de Tierra 2010". It is a three bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home with an open floor plan. A kiva fireplace graces the great room---it is finished with a venetian plaster. The electricity for this home is produced by Photovoltaic Panels on the roof. Enjoy the visit to the Barker's New Mexico Home!
Usually to increase insulation we would add ridged foam to the outside of the wall but we personally don't use anything to "add to the mix" for that purpose. A small amount of portland cement is used to stabilize the wall in case of rain exposure during construction.

Is there something you can add to this mix to increase the insulation, but not ruin it's stable integrity!? Thanks. Is there 'any' cement added?

The reason it looks like concrete is because the crusher fines we use are grey. If you look at our video "The Process of Building Rammed Earth Walls" you can get a better idea of it.
