From Tuesday morning, April 5 to Wednesday evening, April 6.
Somehow, I had a feeling that they weren't going to complete this job in a week. It's been a week, and they've got the south wing demolished.
Former Cabrini-Green tenants who were lease-compliant and able to get units in the mixed-income developments that are being built are fortunate indeed; they're a ten-minute walk from the Gold Coast, Old Town and the Clark & Division station on the Red Line; UIC is a straight shot south down Halsted; a quick ride north up Halsted puts them in the red-hot shopping area on North Avenue between Clybourn and the River; a short bus ride west on Division lands them in the equally hot Milwaukee/Division/Ashland shopping area and the Division Blue Line station where they can catch a train out to Forest Park or to the job-rich Rosemont/O'Hare area on the far northwest side. Subsidized rents in one of the city's hottest neighborhoods and one of the most richly served by public transportation and retail? The deal of the century, and a great opportunity to work themselves up and out of poverty.
P.S. I'm not a great believer in the paranormal, but something's up with those two ceiling fans, one below the other, on the top two floors. Just sayin'. ;)
At 3:21, the absolute worst-enforced rule in the history of CHA public housing.
