A video I made of my trip to Kenya in 2003.

I volunteered with the Earthwatch Institute at Sweetwaters Black Rhino Reserve.

Music is by John Barry, from the soundtrack to Out of Africa.

  • These are some of the most docile Black Rhinos I have ever seen. Most of them you can't even step within 50 feet without getting charged. I'm going to assume that these were brought up around humans so that would explain their comfort level around humans. This is amazing.

  • @BaserOnee Yes, there is just one rhino in this video - Morani. And he was orphaned and raised by humans, so he was tame. You're right, most others would charge you in the wild!

  • I'm sorry to tell you but Morani died a few months ago. I was in Sweetwaters in february 2009. They now have Max, also a rhinocalf orphan who is very sweet.

  • Yes, I know. So sad. I'm happy to hear they were able to rescue another orphan though. I miss sweetwaters, wanna go back. How was your trip? Bet you saw some amazing sights!

  • you are blessed, for being able to view one of the most magnificent animals at such close quarters...! also for volunteering to protect them for future generations... thank you for enabling us to see & admire.... the choice of music too is great... expansive as the savannah... hope copyright laws don't take notice!

  • You normally cant approach a rhino, but this one got his mother died, so it is inoffensive.

Fuck poachers son of the bitches.

  • and still has his horn... WOW.. amazing animal

  • Yes, I am in the video. I didn't find the rhino, and he's not mine. I volunteered in Nanyuki, Kenya a few years ago. Anyone can go visit him, he's protected 24 hours a day, and lives in Sweetwaters Black Rhino Reserve.

  • Fascinating. Is that you inthe video? I wish we had rhinos and tigers as pets instead of dogs and cats. Are these rhinos easy to domesticate if you have them from a very early age? How old was it when you found it?

  • Yes, this is a black rhino. His mother was killed by poachers and he was raised by humans. So he is one of the only tame black rhinos in the world.
