Veteran 1950s Brush Type 2 Class 31 31602 and 31106 top-and-tail DB999508, a Network Rail Track Recording/Inspection Coach in standard Departmental Yellow, past the site of what was once Gogarth Halt on the Cambrian Coast Line between Dovey Junction and Aberdovey.

The train left Machynlleth for Pwllheli at 7.45 a.m on Tuesday 5th January 2010, and is photographed here, the video taken on its return at 12.40 p.m, and afterwards a couple of still photos of the train at Barmouth on its northbound journey at 9.00 a.m.

Before the train passes you will see some of the beautiful scenery visible from the vantage point at Gogarth, which is very nearly 'in the middle of nowhere', the only noise coming from the traffic on the nearby A493 road between Machynlleth and Tywyn. Please excuse any camera shake, it was very cold, as you can see from the snow still on the ground.

  • Nice! They came past my house on monday and I missed them!

  • Yes, the inspection 'train' seems to appear about once every couple of months or so... never know when!

  • Great Video, 5 Stars!

  • Quite a different approach, and very interesting. Good clean panning and careful use of zoom. 5*

  • You know, there's something magical about catching a small train on a track that isn't used very often. I can't describe it. Especially when it's a unique train that's short, coming out of a tunnel (I am assuming that's where it originated from). Nice video.

  • Seen that twice in the space of fifteen minutes, i arrived at Stafford on the 8th of June on the 1533 to London Euston and the same pair were sitting on Platform six, leave Stafford and got off the train at Rugeley Trent Vallley at 1633 and after the 350 left, minutes later the same 31's passed Rugeley TV on the same line

  • Yeh, I saw the times but I didnt get myself out of bed early enough lol!
