After an 18,000 hour restoration, over a period of eight years, Addison Pemberton has finally finished a dream.

Along with 62 volunteers, he's rebuilt the only flyable Boeing model 40 in existence. And it's officially the oldest Boeing still flying, having been built in 1928.

Take a look at this EAA video offering a glimpse into 1920's air travel. It's hard to imagine that less than thirty years later, Boeing would fly the first 707 airliner.

Addison and his Boeing Model 40C will be touring the country this summer, if you get a chance, check it out.
If you'd like to see more photographs of the 40c in flight with my friend Ben Scott in his 1930 Stearman Speedmail and Larry Tobin and his Stearman C3B in their Airmail recreation flight this year go to my website:\
www.mavenandmeddler.com and look at the Flying Machines page. Thanks.

  • I've heard that Boeing was a german immigrant or kid of german immigrants. Is that right?

  • blow it up!

  • WOW! What a beautiful machine. Amazing.

  • This is an amazing airplane. And the Pembertons are an amazing family.

  • I took my first flying lesson at the age of 13, and one of my dreams is to fly a Model 40! Excellent story and video! Thank you so much for sharing this!

  • I read about this restoration a couple of years ago. Man, what an accomplishment. Like finding a P38 in the jungle 60 years later, I imagine about only the data plate was salvageable ;-). Or in this case the landing gear, too.

Anyone wanting to get an idea of what early commercial aviation was like, find the movie the Aviator starring Christopher Reeve. Not the later one with deCaprio. My hat's off both to the restorers and the pilots who flew these 80 years ago.

  • to ggggo again

  • i live in washington i went boieng today it was fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnnn for me i went

  • I bought the model for Flight Simulator 2004. I highly recommend it. :D X-ray vision That you'll need! Beautiful plane and fun to fly.
