Media Composer offers a number of new effects, giving you more tools to work with as you create your sequences. There are also a number of improvements in existing Avid Xpress Pro features that make effects editing in Media Composer easier and faster.
Avid Xpress Pro includes several 3D effects, such as the Page Fold and the 3D Picture-in-Picture effects.
Media Composer has several more 3D effects, and it also allows you to promote certain 2D effects to become 3D effects. For example, with the 3D Warp effect you can create customized 3D transitions from scratch, using a variety of parameters to control the effect.
To apply the 3D Warp effect, enter Effect mode all of your effects editing in Media Composer is done in Effect mode and click the Blend category in the Effect Palette. Then you can drag the 3D Warp Effect icon and drop it on a transition or a segment in the Timeline.
With the 3D effect applied, youll see two default keyframe indicators appear in the Effect Preview monitor. You can click the Promote to Advanced Keyframes button to give you more options for controlling the effect.
In this example, well add some keyframes to control the effect, and then modify the Ball shape so that it grows and rotates as the effect progresses.
Another new effect is the SpectraMatte effect, which provides quality keying and makes it easy to fine-tune your keys to solve problems such as controlling shadows and removing color spill.
The SpectraMatte effect automatically uses advanced keyframes, and it gives you plenty of options to control the look and behavior or your key effect.
You apply the SpectraMatte effect by dragging the effect icon to the foreground track of a multilayer segment in the Timeline in the same way that you apply any other chroma key effect.
Enter the Effect mode, and youll see that SpectraMatte provides you with analysis displays for visual feedback as you fine-tune the key, chrominance controls for adjusting the range of hue and saturation values that the effect keys out, controls for minimizing the spill around the edges of the key, and many other ways to control your effect.
Here, well make a few adjustments to the Chroma Control and Spill parameters, and then scrub through the effect to see how it looks. You can continue to edit the effect until you get exactly the look you want.
