This film shows how trafficked Nepalese girls were rescued from the violent New Raj Kamal Circus which was playing in Uttar Pradesh, north India in January 2007. This was through a joint operation mounted by UK children's charity The Esther Benjamins Trust (EBT) and ChildLine India Foundation. In the end (and in spite of the commentary) all of the girls who had been at the circus were accounted for and the circus owner, Lakhan Chaudhary, went to jail. EBT has been conducting such rescue operations since 2004 and is proud to be at the forefront of the grassroots fight against child trafficking in Nepal. Much more needs to be done in addressing broader issues.
We are grateful to Subi Shrestha and Tom Bell for the use of their film.
