If this piques your interest in theremins - I hope it does - here are some recommendations...
For classical theremin, the original and best is Clara Rockmore - there's a video of her playing "Song of Grusia" by Rachmaninov (Rachmaninoff ?) - also called ""Sing Not, O Lovely One" that is worth looking into. Also try Carolina Eyck, Lydia Kavina, Charles Draper and Peter Pringle.
For popular theremin, I like Randy George - his cover of the Daft Punk song Something About You on theremin, nintendo ds and ableton live is a great jam session - it's da funk, with digital and analogue electronic instruments!
For experimental and avant garde theremin, there's Pamelia Kurstin - look for her tedtalk video "Pamelia Kurstin: Theremin, the untouchable music" - it's a live performance and she talks about the technology. I also love the work of Barbara Buchholz - dig out Seaweed - my favourite performance with overheadprojection art by Pedda Borowski.
Cat & Kitten Free Zone. This video is guaranteed 100% free of cats, kittens and anything else cute, cuddly or loveable; with or without gakken theremin minis.

I agree. But I find the sound even more annoying. Fortunately, you can turn captions and subtitles off and mute the sound. Come to think of it, I'm not much to look at either, and that is one nasty jumper I'm wearing. Hmm. Apparently it is best watched with your eyes closed and your fingers in your ears. :-)
