  • You don't often see intelligent and nuanced discourse. This was a delightful conversation. Still Jon Stewart doth protest too much. He does have a much bigger role in the political arena of today even tho he downplays it and says he's just a comedian. When the jester has integrity in a corrupt court, the balance of power of traditional repute is irrelevant.

The platform Stewart earned for himself seemed an uncomfortable surprise. Face it Jon, you stopped being just a comedian a long time ago

  • Stewart DOES build things. He builds a sense of reality and proportion and he does it through humor. Plus, he calls people on their self-important BS. His job has never been more valuable than it is right now.

  • @uchihaangelus Stewart "downplays" his role because he likes his job. He expects genuine leaders to get into politics. This way he isn't elevated to be some national political power. He understands that it's dangerous for a country to take a fake news comedy show too seriously.

  • @uchihaangelus I think there is more to it than that. Yes, he has influence, but only through his role as a comedian, so he has to defend that role.

  • The more I listen to Jon Stewart, the more I adore him.

  • Jon you're smart but WAKE UP! My friends and I debate through humor. When funny is closer to realiy than serious spin it's not just satire anymore.

  • Jon tells the truth about Ron Paul.

Rachel tells lies about Ron Paul.

  • With Rachel, humor is a tool. With Jon, it's a profession.

  • @uchihaangelus

Well but this kind of the point Jon Stewart is making. In the past there was a seperation between politic satire and News. The news moved closer to a satire of itself, which does make them less serious and reliable. He never changed his part in this mess, just because the people need to listen to him more to get good informations may not force him to change at all because u are crippling what he basicly he is...a political satirist. The News needs to keep chaning.

  • The Daily Show is NOT satire. Colbert is satire. Stewart is a news anchor/comedian who takes the time to point out how ridiculous, corrupt and hypocritical politicians and media figures are for things they have actually said and done. He's not making things up and exaggerating out of context, purely for the sake of getting a laugh. He's simply drawing our attention to truths that are intrinsically funny and infuriating. He provides a much needed public service.

  • Jon is a Comedian. I totally agree with him. Those who say he is trying to be a political player undermine satire in my opinion. Satire is more powerful than people think and Jon/Colbert are absolute geniuses at portraying reality through satire.
