Cranial Nerve 5- Sensory
There is a sensory deficit for both light touch and pain on the left side of the face for all divisions of the 5th nerve. Note that the deficit is first recognized just to the left of the midline and not exactly at the midline. Patients with psychogenic sensory loss often identify the sensory change as beginning right at the midline.

  • Damn it, I wish my doctors weren't so specific in their questioning. When I'm asked, "Is it sharp?" that's all I'm going to answer to. I didn't realize that having a feeling of heat afterward was unusual, or that numb feeling was abnormal, or that it isn't normal to have a sunburn-type pain all the time. Docs need to know that even though they don't want to suggest things to their patient, many times the patient will either not know something is abnormal or just won't volunteer that info.
