John B. Connally switching Party

John Bowen Connally served as Texas Governor from 1963-1969. In November 1963, Connally was seriously wounded while riding in President Kennedy's car in Dallas when the president was assassinated. In 1971, Republican President Nixon appointed the then Democrat Connally as Treasury Secretary. Connally stepped down as treasury secretary in 1972 to head "Democrats for Nixon", a group funded by Republicans. Connally's old mentor, Lyndon Johnson, stood behind Democratic presidential nominee George S. McGovern of South Dakota, although McGovern had long opposed Johnson's foreign and defense policies. In May 1973, Connally joined the Republican Party. Connally announced in January 1979 that he would seek the Republican nomination for President in 1980.

We need to remember that Governor Connally, (1963-1969), was a CONSERVATIVE in the Democratic Party. He would fit in well with the Republican Party of the early 1970's. But let me add a couple of comments about John Connally.

He mentioned that President Kennedy, prior to his visit to Texas on November 21 and 22, 1963, had not been back to the state since the 1960 election. That is false. Kennedy was at Rice University in Houston in Sept. 1962 and also again at El Paso in June 1963.

Johnson and Nixon were two peas in a pod. When Johnson was out this parasite ( Connally ) joined up with Nixon . Simple as that.

The reason was the same as Reagan left the Dumbocrats---with the McGoverns, Humphreys, Mondales, Dukakis, Kerrys, Ted Kennedys and now (gulp! Obamas), any self-respecting person with clear traditional values and belief in American Exceptionalism, would make the same choice. Reagan and Connally didn't leave the Democrat party, IT left them. The party of Truman, John F. Kennedy, Scoop Jackson, is GONE! The socialist wing has taken root and infested the party...which will go down in 2010!
