  • "I don't think we have a problem with out user interface today, at all"...

He actually said that with a straight face. Symbian is doomed.

  • He meant, of course, that S60 5th (with kinetic scrolling) is very useable and consistent, once you 'get' the focus-driven UI, i.e. tap to highlight, tap again to action. But he did say as well that even Symbian is moving to a 'direct interaction' UI in the future.

  • Steve -- Thanks for your direct involvement, you do a great job. In fact, since receiving my N97 on Day One of the release here in the US, I've come to depend on your guidance. I dare say that without you, my N97 experience would be even worse.

I did a lot of research, and waited and waited for the N97. It looks great on paper, but my experience is that in actual use it's a disaster.

Granted, I'm not the tech whiz you are, but I have a higher geek quotient than most.

  • Yes, you do have to be quite geeky to appreciate what Symbian OS does for a phone. I'd love to head your thoughts behind the 'disaster' quote though. Maybe email me? Or post thoughts here? Are you on v20 firmware?

  • Yes, I'm on the v20 firmware update. I find the operating system cumbersome and frustrating. And, the C: drive memory management issue coupled with the phone's instability frequently drives me back to my E71 until I miss that big display and good camera on the N97.

  • Yes, the lack of RAM is still a problem for many. Nokia need to rework the OS to use at least 10MB less RAM, imho. Thanks for the feedback!

  • Wow.. the world is so different across the pond...when I was in UK, everybody talks about Nokia-Samsung-Symbian and now here in USA its all about iPhone-RIM...8-)

  • Wow! 460 new features? Improved UI? Qt?I'm big on Symbian and I think I'll stick with it. But for Lee to say there's no problem with the current UI...No, I don't agree, its behind..

  • The ideal solution is to NOT carry around two devices.

  • whyyyyy satio all hail omnia hd those extra pixels are useless

  • a Satio... lol, even Steve won't review it until it's fixed... i8910 so much better than the Satio apart from the 12mp Camera which the Samsung hasn't got... even the 8MP camera isn't great in low light... looking forward t next years MWC to see what the new phones come out with... Tegra based anyone?

  • YAY! for symbian!

I would like to get an E72, but I love my E63 too much.
