all you guys are talking out of your ass. Rupp IS suited for the 10k, he just doesn't have the necessary level of endurance to maintain pace with the medal winners on the last lap. Even Salazar has said it himself.

@MrWakethesheeple 26:45 wouldn't hurt Bekele a bit. Eliud Kipchoge will be way better than that in a few years too.

Rupp's form just isn't efficient enough at 10k speed. It would have been in the 1980's, but efficient form is on another level now. He's better suited for marathons.

@MrWakethesheeple All Symmonds needs is to get the right position in a traffic jam, and he could win with a 1:45. Rudisha isn't likely to allow a slow race, but it's more likely than Bekele being challenged by Rupp. Rupp has weak form - he runs like Alberto Salazar. Bekele and most Kenyans are fluid forefoot-strikers more efficient over 5 and 10k, and better kickers. Rupp would have to set the pace and leave them behind. Not likely.

Ironically Prefontaine had the same problem.

masterful race by Niyongabo. he only switched to the 5k at the last minute to allow his friend to run in the 1500, a truly selfless act. In the end it turned out to be a blessing as i don't think he would have beaten Morceli in the 1500. Great to see Burundi get their first Olympic Medal, and to have it Gold.

I'm a Brit but prould of what Kennedy achieved! He showed to all the gutless Britsh athelets that is was possible for a white guy to compete at the top.
