Fourteenth video. This short theme is the background music for the first dungeon of The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages. Seeing that the dungeon is located in the Yoll Graveyard, the boss is a ghost with a pumpkin for a head, the miniboss is a giant Ghini, and the Essence of Time found in this dungeon is called the Eternal Spirit, this dungeon is appropriately called the Spirit's Grave.

I've decided to take on the Oracle dungeons in the order I initially played the Oracle games -- first Ages then Seasons. The hardest part about making the music for this dungeon was the last two measures. For one thing, I had to get into 32nd notes, which meant bumping the tempo up to 1000. In addition to that, the notes actually spanned 5 different octaves, going way outside the Mario Paint staff's range in both directions. It was difficult to compensate for that, but I did it in the best way I could come up with.

Like Link's Awakening, I plan to do all eight dungeons in order and to include the Room of Rites (since that is also somewhat of a dungeon). However, unlike Link's Awakening, I'm not going to go through all the dungeons in a row. There are some other projects that I would like to complete in addition to this one, so by leaving a window of space between dungeons I'll be able to work on them in addition to completing the dungeon series. That being said, I really hope you enjoy the first dungeon of Oracle of Ages.

  • I never realised this but I think I recognise this music from WarioLand from the original Game Boy! I think it's when Wario turns into a Zombie. I always thought Zelda music was so original but is it possible they could have re-used this particular musical piece?

  • In Wario Land I? He doesn't turn into a zombie in WLI, does he? I know he does in Wario Land II, but that music is much different from this music here.

Not trying to say you're wrong (perhaps you were mixed up with some other game), but I think I'd notice if it was Wario Land I.

  • Personally, I didn't care for the dungeon themes in these games as much as some of the other songs like the Subrosian theme, the pirate's song, and Ralph's theme.

I did like the Dancing Dragon though, that was some awesome music right there.

  • I like them all, some more than others. Moonlit Grotto, Skull Dungeon, Mermaid Cave, Dancing Dragon Dungeon, Unicorn's Cave, Explorer's Crypt, and the Sword and Shield Maze are the ones I'm most looking forward to creating.

A lot of the other songs from the Oracle games were really good as well (the ones you mentioned, Tarm Ruins, King Moblin's Castle, Black Tower, Samasa Desert, and the Credits immediately come to mind). Perhaps I'll make a few of those in between dungeons.

  • Let me know when you do Mermaid's Cave, I can't tell you how much I love that theme.

  • ...Or you could subscribe and you'll be able to see my videos as soon as I upload them. :P

  • amazing!

if you held it a little longer in some spots, it would be even better

  • sounds just like it

  • dude that was real awesome!!

  • how in the world did you make the gameboys do that? i cant do that xD

  • You're right Zombie was in WL2, but I just looked up the music and it sounds nothing like it. What was it thinking??

  • I thought some of the dungeon themes were aweaome, nearly all of them I liked in their own way. Mermaid's Cave my favorite.
