The legendary Santoor maestro and music composer Pandit Bhajan Sopori composed Saare Jahan Se Achha which featured some of the most prominent musicians of India like Ustad Bismillah Khan, Ustad Villayat Khan, Pt. Rajan Sajan Mishra, Begum Parveen Sultana, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Sh. Rajinder Prasanna, Sh. Rashid Khan and others including Pt. Bhajan Sopori himself. This classical version was produced by National Network, Govt. of India.

Pandit Bhajan Sopori - Santoor Legend & Composer

Pandit Bhajan Sopori is more than an individual a performer and composer par excellence, musicologist, teacher, writer, poet, and an extraordinary human being he is a complete institution in himself. Regarded as the cultural bridge of the State of Jammu & Kashmir and the rest of the country, Pandit Bhajan Sopori is hailed as the Saint of the Santoor and the King of Strings.

Pandit Bhajan Sopori, the Legendary Santoor Maestro and Music Composer, has been the pioneer in establishing the Santoor on national and international platforms as a complete solo instrument. He has also composed music almost 5000 songs in almost all the languages of the country. He has used his Santoor and his compositions to highlight the concept of oneness and foster unity enshrining the idea of national integration, humanism and peace amongst the common man and the youth in particular.


For his enormous contributions, he has received numerous awards including the prestigious Padma Shri (one of the highest civilian awards of India), Sangeet Natak Academy Award (highest performing award of the country), J&K State Award (highest civilian award of J&K State), National Flag Honour of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Beenkar Award (Title honour), Delhi Ratan Award, Delhi Telugu Academy Award, National Dogri Award, Akashwani Annual Awards, National Shiromani Award, Punjab Sakha Award, Kala Yogi Award, Abhinav Kala Award, Shree Bhatt Kirti Award, Munnu Guru Sangeet Award and various lifetime achievement awards like Sangeet Vibhuti Award, Raag Sagar, Sangeet Ratna Award, Shree Bhatt Kirti Award, Gama Maharaj Aaward, Sharda Samman, etc.

  • High respect and regards to Bismillah Khan Shaheb. This short short piece of Shehnai filled my eyes with tears...oh my god im cryin and playing this again and again. Guys now pls dont find my Religion in my Name now.
