If that is to be used in an aquarium for vacuming may I suggest... if you insert the rest of your siphon hose into the water then put your thumb over the exit hole till you have it over whatever you are draining into - then remove your thumb. it will take off by itself and you will not disturb your tank. If you have a small tank you can fill the hose with water at the tap and carry it to the tank. just keep both ends upright and thumb over exit... I do not like fish water in my mouth!
I have used that method before but, it just doesn't work for me. I use the way by just swishing it up and down in the water a few times and then it works perfectly!
I think that this method is very good but just not for me.

An interesting method. But when using a clear hose (for gasoline or a fish tank), I've never ended up with anything in my mouth when siphoning.
