This is Cutler at his finest. I know Miguel Pinto would be so proud to see him singing this kind of role with such ease. Pinto lives on every time Cutler takes the stage.

i think balance in both versions are to be desired -- it's more to do with staging, recording mikes position, and mixing (may be entirely different to live experience) i love Gunn, and Cutler sings just like an angel... it's a rather dreary opera - if i'd already have to, i think i'd rather sit through this version than the one with Burden, there are much more tenor parts that one need to listen to, and Burden is rather too squeaky to put up with

Also, the timbres of William Burden and Nathan Gunn compliment each other beautifully in a dramatic light and dark contrast. Like a Caravaggio painting. Or like Giuseppe di Stefano and Maria Callas singing together.

See Nathan Gunn perform this duet with William Burden in 2004 in Philadelphia. The two sing in perfect balance with each other. The performance is exceptional.

I'm not convinced that Eric Cutler's voice is right for this role of Nadir. It's too light and bright for the virility needed to make this character believeable. Would have to hear more, but for now, it's a thumb down .
