  • the purpose of semi-contact competition is to show speed and technique, in contrast with full contact, where there rarely are real, clean karate techniques. If you can "touch" someone in a competiotion, you could easily punch someone really fast on the street. Technique is alot more important than strength.

  • @takedowned-True, but the emphasis is not so much on technique here, as this video clearly demonstrates. Also, its unrealistic, as one can potentially win a figtht by throwing weak back-hands and oi zuchis. I have yet to see a crisp, powerful gyaka zuchi in any of these competition videos; a trade mark of practically every karate style in existence.

    Personally, I hate watching it, and will probably list this as the last competition video I ever voluntarily watch. ever.
