Everybody knows the So-Cal conglomerate CR&R. But what few YouTubers know much about is their truck yard based out of the desert community of Phelan, CA. (And I'd guess even fewer know where Phelan actually is.)

Nevertheless, a particular rarity is located at this yard, and used this particular week in the ski town of Wrightwood for recycling. Once a mystery following r6man2's Google Maps street view "find" of the truck (http://www.flickr.com/photos/34246725@N06/6387391543/in/photostream), Mike and I were successful in personally meeting the Peterbilt 310/early 320 model once used by the city of Los Angeles, with the original Formula 7000 curved-shell body + arm mounted on it. Such a truck was one of the many which started LA city's venture in automated trash collection, and to say it is a piece of history is to say the least.

As I leave you to watch the footage from my perspective, remember how difficult it would be to find any other F7k of this age, and with this history, in any part of the nation. Comment accordingly.

This 500th video is also symbolic of less Escondido Disposal in the future, and more of trucks beyond San Diego County coming from me.

  • Nice looks like you were in N. California. Congrats on 500 videos!

  • @internationalRLfan Few people realize that SoCal has quite a few mountains too. This was filmed only a couple hours from where I live.

  • @3amrepmike3 filmed this truck with you right

  • @factus4134 Yes we teamed up for quite a few trucks in the last couple months

  • @Trashman242 Oh ok.

  • @Trashman242 thats cool have you ever filmed disposal services down in chino hills and orange county do you want to come in my neighborhood and film my trucks i have some old petes!

  • @DisposalAmreps It's just the way they are designed, there's a thick section on them and it's just for strength (reinforcement).

  • @Trashman242 oooohhh, i thought it ment something with the grippers. speaking of the grippers, what are those metal things on the grippers?

  • @Trashman242 Ok. Thanks. By the way, that PM I sent you was supposed to be a comment. I just can,t see what I'm doing on my smartphone.

  • @DisposalAmreps Before this the only ASLs they were making had vertical braces or "ribs" going down the side of the body. This was when they first started producing them with "smooth" sides to the body.

If you want to see an example of a ribbed body truck, go to my channel and watch the video I posted about a week ago of the Valley Vista truck.
