...*hugs her Certified American Bred African Grey* If people just bought local birds instead of buying wild birds then this crap wouldn't happen anymore. I agree, that the import of wild parrot should be banned. These animals are essential to the wild, a 50% fatality rate is completely unacceptable, and inhumane.

I agree Eco-Tourism seem like a bright alternative. I will pay what ever is possible to go and see the greys in the wild. I own a grey, I rescue him from a pet store in southflorida. He is a plucker. He is smart loving but does not grow feathers in the wings and has no tail. he can never be release. I do agree 110%.
I love my parrot however they belong free in the wild not on cages.

@lionzion22 This comment is not true Granted the very first generation had to be wild caught from Africa but after that and it doesn't take long until there is no need to be involved in the Wild Caught Trade this problem does not appear to be Hopeless. Thank God The world without free flying Parrots would be a much less beautiful place to be in.We need reasonable people in this world today to work for change before it is too late.

Might find disturbing? If you don't find those sweet birdies screaming upsetting, there's something wrong with you.

It is sad to see stop buying wild birds u morons.

very impressive trapping! The natives have to earn a living and feed their families, so give them a break.
-
Good job! I love exotic birds, and don't see any reason why we shouldn't have them as pets. It's not like they are slaughtered or killed. I'd love to have a breeding pair of wild African Greys someday.
-
You say this, yet without wild caught African Greys (not all of the wild catching is done by Cameroonians), you would not have a "Ceritified American Bred African Grey". Odd isn't it?
-
What a sad animal trade again must stop it!
It's true that we're creating much of the demand in the first world, thus captive bred birds as pets are better than wild caught. While a handful of trappers are indeed trying to 'feed their families' that doesn't make their trapping sustainable or acceptable. We need to both eliminate the demand and provide them with viable and sustainable alternatives, otherwise we'll surely fail.
