Paris Roubaix 2011: Team Sky mechanic talks about Bradley Wiggins's Pinarello bike

With the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix on the horizon, riders are putting the final touches to their training and preparation, but behind the scenes teams are working overtime to make sure that their bikes and equipment are in perfect condition and ready for the challenges ahead.

At Team Sky's service course in Mechelen, Carsten Jeppesen and his team are working around the clock to make sure that the team's bikes are ready.

"This is without doubt one of the busiest times in the year for us," he told Cyclingnews during an exclusive look around the service course.

  • not very enthusiastic...hmmm.

  • luv the way he hides the O'symetric chainrings to not upset shimano lol...

  • @TheBphelan you will have significant dampening and road vibration absorption compared to a alu connected to a steel steerer tube (that is if your fork is full CF, the forks and the steerer) this is dampening effect is greater than say a steel steerer (or fork) connected to a CF stem and/or handlebar

  • wow, i have the same bottle cages!!!!!!

  • huh????? chain guard on Di2, why??????

  • @baroh2413 your wife knows when you've been out with that aluminium slut, because you go into the shower immediately after seeing her.

My everyday bike by the way is really old and heavy, but at least she's always ready for a quick 15 minute ride and other guys don't try to steal her if i leave her unattended.

  • A really fundamental question and concept...I am a big fan of aluminum, and I am looking at purchasing a new stem and handlebars. However, even if I buy aluminum, I am still connecting the aluminum to a carbon fiber tube, on a carbon fiber fork. If that is the case, have a REALLY accomplished that much by sticking with aluminum?

  • @zebedee147 I've snapped aluminium bars too. And steel forks. And carbon ski poles. But I've also bent aluminium bars, rims, and derailleur hangers. Sometimes I wrap sandwiches in aluminium foil. What a twat I must be.

  • @zebedee147 Aluminuim bends - but when it is bent past a certain point it will shear:

Alu 6061T6 (common alu) breaks after ~ 17% elongation

Carbonfibres breaks after around ~ 0.5%-2% elongation

In engineering terms - aluminum is significantly more elastic than carbonfibre
