truth. One thing: Jesus did not give us a book to read; He gave us His person. The scriptures will lose its power if there is no interpreter. Jesus did not leave us with His book (He did not write any). He left us with His Church, the bearer of this Good News. We can encounter Jesus in the Bible, but it is not the complete picture of salvation; we do not interact with Jesus by mere reading. He is encountered in life through the harbinger of this eternal life - the authority to pronounce the

Just my comment on Youmethem1111. You mentioned about this: "the JESUS of the Bible and not the jesus of this religion." Actually, I would seem to think that you are like the early modern biblical scholars who put a wide gap between Jesus of the faith and the historical Jesus. The Jesus experienced by the Apostles and the first disciples in Jerusalem has no difference from the Jesus you and I read from the Scriptures two thousand years removed. The Bible cannot stand alone as the measure of

After all, He is omnipresent and omnipotent. His power does not limit Himself to our categories; He is good in Himself that can dispose goodness through His creatures. If God chooses this kind of phenomenon, this devotion of Filipino Catholics to the Black Nazarene as His means of grace, then who are we to point against God the first of His commandments.

In the first century Jewry, who would have thought to destroy the temple, which even Jesus Himself considered as holy - the house of prayer, of communication with the God of Israel. Catholics do not believe that the image of Christ suffering is God Himself. Unlike the Oriental religions and neo-paganism who worship the environment, Catholics do not consider the earth as God, much less the wood. However, God is not so distinct from His created beings that He cannot communicate grace through it.

@youmethem11111 I understand where you are coming from. Remember brother that Jesus' claim to be the One who is to come is already idolatrous before the Judaic faith, before the eyes of those who practice the Mosaic Law. Here, we can question the absolute force of the graven images as being idolatry in itself per the first commandment. Even the temple of Jerusalem was even considered holy among the Jews, its precincts are the vestibule of God, the temple as the footstool of the Lord.
Deut.5:7-9 ws spoken by God to Moses n to Jews wen they were stopped at d end of a long journey n abt to enter Canaan;aftr they were set free frm Egypt.Ds was a WARNING after d Jews committed idolatry by worshipping d golden calf.Ds ws addressed ONLY to Jews(n to ppol) HOW THEY 4GOT GOD;aftr they were emancipated frm thousand yrs of slavery in Egypt. Ds' NOT AN ABSOLUTE PROHIBITION so as wit Ex.20:1-5,bcos Ctholics DON'T 4GET GOD wen they venerates (not worship) d images of Christ,Mary n saints.

Tnx a lot to my co-Catholics for defending our faith n Church. Anti- Catholics r really poor in understanding bcos their eyes r closed,n their minds r dull n made up! As Christ said: I'M WITH U ALL DAYS (d true Church started at Pentecost [ACTS 2:1-41] ) EVEN UNTO CONSUMMATION OF D WORLD".Matt 28:20. And only d CATHOLIC CHURCH has this quality!
