Award-winning musicians, Scotland's national poet and the words of Robert Burns featured in the opening of the Scottish Parliament's Fourth Session on Friday 1 July.
Twice winner at the UK-wide BBC Folk Awards, contemporary folk singer Karine Polwart performed Burns' classic 'Now Westlin Winds' in front of Her Majesty The Queen, His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, MSPs and invited guests in Holyrood's Chamber.
She was joined by this year's Burnsong Gathering under-25s songwriting winner Kirsty Grace and former winner Kim Edgar.

A wee lassie from Braeface singing at the Scottish Parliament. Wonderful, just wonderful. My father was born and brought up in that area. Well done Karine, we have enjoyed watching your musical career progress, I bet your mum and dad are proud.

I visited that fascinating space four summers ago, but never envisioned the musical uses to which it could be put. Lovely performance of a beautiful song.
