The Dansereau family, like many others, was deeply affected by the Vietnam War and the dishonorable abandonment of U.S. POWs for political expediency. This is Joe's tribute to his brothers and to all those who have fallen, have returned as walking wounded, or simply disappeared in the rice paddies and POW camps of Vietnam.
If you've been to 'Nam and go to The Wall, you'll look for the names of the guys in your unit who didn't make it back. You might go for years living a 'normal life' - but once you see those familiar names, you lean your head against the black granite so those around don't see your tears ... and all the fear and agony and pain comes rushing back like you'd never left. You can run, but you can't hide.
Whether you supported the politicians making the decisions or not (and many in uniform did not), those who left and returned, and those who left and didn't return, deserve our honor and respect.
This is no place for political hatred and slander. This is a place of silence and honor. If you cannot respect that, please take your venom somewhere else.
