Nick Kane shot this to test film on depth of field (blur), dynamic range (details in dark and bright) and slow motion.

Notice how you can see the sky is blue, not white like HD. Plus you can see in the dark areas and the highlights don't have that cheap nuclear look of video.

  • It's all about dynamic range! I agree, film can be pretty good with dynamic range, but HDR video sensors are really catching up. I take video with a Canon 550D for 8.5 exposure stops :D
