Admiral Papo Vazquez and PIRATES TROUBADOURS. Billy Carrion, Jr. newly inducted. Check him out on alto sax.
Filmed by Ana Flores, Sept. 20, 2008 at The Flushing Town Hall, NYC.
Admiral Papo Vazquez and The PIRATES TROUBADOURS once again prove that mediocrity is not part of the repertoire. With a strong, funktified [yea, it's my word], PHAT and his unforgiving arsenal: the brass section and the band's driving force, last night included special guest Pete Nater on trumpet, the musically multifaceted and newly inducted Pirate, saxophonist, Billy Carrion, Jr., along with the awesome seasoned Pirate, Willie Williams and of course, Admiral Papo Vazquez's sexy trombone riffs. At times, Vasquez's brass section kept conjuring up memories of retro-structured James Brown-ish and Graham Central Station-ish style of music; it continuously kept coming to my mind that I don't EVER remember being moved and FUNKTIFIED like this by a band since my father first introduced me to James Brown's music! Yea, that funky! Aaaargh, matey! Posted with permission of The Admiral, Papo Vazquez.
