walk-around of my 1985 K100RT. I had the knee pads off at the time. Why is the 85 so good? (Hotter cams) Why is is bad? (16 teeth splines).

  • i bought a '85 k100RS 2 years ago, i love it! It starts way better than this one. It's not a very fast bike, but it makes a great bike for travelling. The plastic keeps me dry in the rain, and air from the radiator keeps my legs warm ;-) I love its design, it's quite sophisticated for the time yet very simple. Good job bmw!

My previous bike was an old naked gsx1100 tho... and I gotta admit... the k100's advantages are its disadvantages... i miss the wind during the hot summer ;p

  • I'm giong to bay one after tommorow in the UK. Lovely bike I think.

  • I owned the naked version (K100 basic) in red. That was a really useful bike!

I've buyed it in used (58'000km) condition, sold it 5 jears later to 90% of my prize (!) with nearly 200'000km on it's counter!

I had always fun while ridin' it, I did more than 120'000km!

Okay, 98hp (out of 998 ccm) is not much today, but it is enough for nearly all situations.

I hope You'll have always a safe and funny ride with Your "flying brick"!

  • Shame he did not take the time to do up his helmet strap.

  • this was my dream-bike in the 80`s,i was 12 years old and my home was the GDR

  • Just purchased a 1985 K-100 and I'm really looking forward to the ride. Learning alot about this legend. Bought mine with 22,,000 miles. Will be on the road in a few days, enjoy it, it's beautiful.

  • This is great. I'm in love with the early K's and yours is beautiful. Check you idle speed, it sounds a tad low.

  • nice bike mate

  • Best K-bikes coming from -83 to -86. With 16 teeth splines and L-Jetronic. Later models with 21 teeth splines, and Motronic,, No Thanks.

  • Hey, thanks for the walkaround! I watched it a few times before i ended up getting a 1987 K100RS. Helped a lot with my purchase. Thanks again!
