I have swap magic for japanese playstation 2 and the BIOS dumping CD. Cd seems to be working fine on PS2, but when i go into mass directory it freezes every time. I have a 1 GB USB storage device empty(no data on it), bought brand new for this purpose (BIOS dumping), and i formatted it to fat 32 with the highest allocation i COULD on my computer. Ive allocated it both to default and to the largest i could : 8192.

Every time the program needs to access my USB device the program freezes: this would be in both the mass process and the cdfs process (the dumping screen). Though interestingly it doesnt say that the dump failed like it does when no USB device is inserted. It just stays where it is for hours.

What am i doing wrong? DO i need a different storage device? Is it not working because USB device is being formatted on a US computer rather than Japanese computer?

Does anyone have a screenshot of what i should see when the dump is successful?

  • I suppose i should update by letting everyone know that i did successfulyl dump my BIOS i had to use a much smaller USB storage device. Mine (the one that worked) was 64 MB.

  • Tryusing an american PS2

  • @YoaiFan

It was a Japanese BIOS i needed to obtain, not USA. And i successfully dumped it a long time ago. The problem was that all of the USB storage drives i was using were too large. A cheap 64 MB USB device worked.

  • Hi,can i dump the Bios to Memorycard?

Then,i wan't to copy the Bios fromt Memorycard to USB Stick.

  • by the way, i've used 64mb, 128mb, 256mb, 512mb, 1gb and even 4gb that have been formated to fat. and, no problem show up. i use slim ps2. never moded. but it running smooth.

  • use Ulaunch elf. and select mass:/ if it not work, select the another one that named mass:/ )but with some letter or number on it, i forgot)

  • What if you just partitioned your (say) 4GB thumbdrive with JUST a 64mb FAT partition? Once I get my PS2 out of storage, I might try it.

Ah i didnt know that. Well i think the dumping program i used only handles 64 MB. I did format all my devices properly.

  • @MachinimaMan141

Yeah i was asking around while having this problem and someone told me a 64 MB worked for him so i bought that exactly. I have to tell people to make sure its 64 MB because i dont know the maximum the PS2 can handle. Really, whod have guessed the reason it wasnt working was because my USB memory stick capacity was too much? Its not even mentioned in the tutorial i used.

  • @MachinimaMan141

Yeah 64 MB does the trick. Even 1 GB is too large. I tried 2 GB then 1 GB then 64 MB. Only the 64 MB worked.
