The first time I saw Laird Brooks Schmidt he was hosting all night movies on a local TV station. I found his one man group thinker surrealist shtick both fascinating and hilarious. Hell, he even sparked an interest in the works of Salvador Dali in me. A few years later I started producing television programs on Everyones Television Channel 12 and wondered whatever became of him after leaving broadcast TV. I opened a local phone book and sure enough, there he was. We gave him a call and he came down to host a variety show I put together called Telecide 84.
Laird was an absolute gas to work with. He & I went on to collaborate on another show called Your Name Here where he would discuss some obscure subject matter relating to who knows what, but it was always fun to listen to. Sadly, Laird passed away back in November of 2004 at the age of 80.
This clip is from his stand up routine.
Great seeing him. Thank you so much!
