BANGKOK A crackdown on anti-government protesters in Thailand's capital Saturday left at least 15 people dead and more than 650 injured, with no progress toward ending a monthlong standoff with demonstrators demanding new elections.

It was the worst violence in Bangkok since more than four dozen people were killed in an antimilitary protest in 1992. Bullet casings, rocks and pools of blood littered the streets where pitched battlesraged for hours.

Army troops later retreated and asked protesters to do the same, resulting in an unofficial truce.

Four soldiers and 11 civilians, including a Japanese cameraman, were killed, according to the government's Erawan emergency center.

  • i dont blame most of red shirts. They just want the government to help them out.

BUT its just too much, they think they turned violent and they'll win? f*cking pathetic.

  • Abhshit and his thai government members think they got everything in control and all their dirty planned that they've done by using their own innocent thai citizen to get killed just to get thaksin in jail or hang Then in the near future Thailand will become a FAILing country cuz You thai people have a devil abhshit and his devil thai government members creating bad karma to your thailand country.

  • @TheCashistrash I agree, but I don't think that will happen anytime soon. The Thai Government had already blamed all the violence and bloodbath in Red Shirt and Third Party. Looking at Mr. Korn's speech yesterday, he both said

[1] democracy in Thailand worked and poverty level (GINI coefficient) no worse than others (but not true)

[2] Democracy is NOT as important... Of course, [2] contradicts with [1].

  • well as far as i understand the redshirts don't like the politics because soemone thinks that elections were stolen or something like that. Reds are asking for re-election or something similiar. Apparently someone does not want that. So people are protesting in the streets and soilders are shooting at people. My opinion is Have new Freaking election and keep everyone happy and avoid bloodbath. Make sure a third party oversees elections such as UN

  • love thailand peace

  • this is what happen when you kill innocent people on south thailand before...this is a punisment from god even they can't realize it...now your fighting each other...

  • They've burnt down Central World =/

  • @louischew2008 That's not true, actually.

Soldiers killing civilians and reporters was total bull. It was probably done by the what the rioters called "fake red," like all the other times random M79 hit soldiers base, police stations, and office workers in Silom

  • Man, not fair war cause the red shirt didn't have guns

  • From the news reported on media, the Thai government and army are using snipers to kill protesters, civilians and reporters. What a shame that this is Thai government is capable of! Shouldnt the Thai government be responsible for the civilian casualties? Where is the United Nations?
