Steve Simms performs "Long Black Veil" at the Salt Palace Auditorium in Salt Lake City on January 8, 2007. The song was originally recorded in 1959 by Lefty Frizzell, and was written by Marijohn Wilkin and Danny Dill. Johnny Cash also recorded this song (1965), as has The Chieftains with Mick Jagger (1995), The Band (1968), Joan Baez (1963), Dave Matthews Band (1999), and many many others. Steve performed this song as he opened for Michael Martin Murphey as part of The Night of Entertainment at the American Farm Bureau Federation's annual convention.
Nice job! I ,too, do covers.... Jim Reeves, Frank Sinatra...and others.

Danny DIll actually wrote this song.... not Lefty Frizell. I first heard it done by the Kingston Trio who used a slightly faster tempo.

haha, the comments are funny on this one. don't take it too seriously. lol. don't want to end up ass raped over a cover song. this is a pretty easy version of this if you're a musician. had no idea it wasn't a johnny original either. cool.

BTW I was talking to olebkjck!
I think Steve does a good job of singing it! I am sure he wouldn't of been asked to sing at an event if people didn't think he could sing!

I wish if people couldn't say anything good they wouldn't say anything at all. Do you sing? And can we hear something you've sung?

Regardless of who did and didn't record it, its still a damn good ballad.
