Just Music. Mario Lanza & Frances Yeend sing "Vogliatemi Bene" from "Madama Butterfly" by Giacomo Puccini in this recording from their live 1947 concert at the Hollywood Bowl, the same concert where Louis B. Mayer discovered Lanza. Conductor is Eugene Ormandy.

  • Thanks for posting these Lanza clips. Without these he could be easily forgotten. He appeared in a bunch of Hollywood movies but was not a great actor. Too bad he never followed his natural inclination to sing full time in the opera.

  • He was not a bad actor. I enjoyed most of his movies, but they could be corny at times. I would have prefered him to sing in the opera as well.

  • @marilynf : Francis Yeend was 35 when this was recorded. She was born in 1913 and died in 2008 age 95.

  • fabulous stuff!

  • What I would have given to have been in the audience at the Hollywood Bowl that night! Two young people singing their hearts out and it was so darn beautiful!!Lanza was only 26 - I'm not sure the age of Yeend, but young, for sure. Bravo to Mario and Frances! Incredibly gorgeous.

  • Thanks for this. I've had trouble finding this version as it is very rare.
