a "migraine with aura" differs from a "typical migraine" because there is no headache or any pain just visual disturbance , an attack can be a bit distressing but an optical migraine is not a serious condition . it has not been confirmed what exactly causes this type of migraine but the most likely theory is a food allergy .

  • after that i got a terrible headache and i could even pinpoint where the hreadache was, i thought it was a stroke or something to do with the retina. it has happened to me 4 more times after that, usually when i have been drinking alcohol, milk, or smoking. thank you, the cheese does make sense to me, i started to think i was allergic to dayry products, and this might be just it, im going to get rid of all of it.

    cheers mate

  • @spacedebry In the vast majority of cases the cause is an allergy , but it can be difficult to pinpoint , but dairy products are chief contenders

  • I had the same symptoms for the last 19 years.... Yes 19 years... Now I'm 47 years old and do my best to kind of get use to it... it does bother me when I have an activity where this will either cancel it or at least delay it... I noticed lately that reading in poor lighting condition will trigger it... in addition to lack of good sleep.

  • @abuown many thanks for your comment !

  • So this is exactly what I have as well - How did you figure out your specific allergy to cheese? Best, Heidi

  • this happened to me this evening. I thought I was going to have a stroke. It was very scary. I'm young and in very good shape. Blood tests and all. I keep the same diet. But today I had more Coffee than usual, and it probably triggered it, but my sister and father used to suffer from "migraines", possibly a heredity factor. Going to see a neurologist, just to be sure.

  • This is exactly what I experience once every 18 months or so. No pain, just this wierd shimmering light, starting in the centre of vision and slowly moving outwards in a C-shape. It really scared me the first time it happened, but now I know what it is, I'm not so freaked out when it happens. I'd rather have this, than have the headaches that other people get with migraine!

  • it makes me twitch and i feel like theres someone beside me

  • @st2hallock sumatriptan is a magic mushroom chemical analogue without mind expanding properties ;)

  • i get nausea and dizziness too

  • @st2hallock yea its scary, I had one today and had one last week, but before that I didnt have one for about 6 months. This is definitely a phenomenon, Its weird the experience varies in characteristics every time. I am dealing with the monstrous head ache that sets on after. Hopefully some kind of medicine is useful. I stick to the Excedrin as soon as I see the baby light forming.

  • wow, this has answered many questions!. it happened to me the first time about 5 years ago and i was so scared i didn't know what was going on, it started off me not being able to focus properly after that i felt sick (maybe due to the nerves), and then i started seeing the aura with loads of different pyramid shaped cones of different colours usually flashing,

  • Had no symptoms for the last 15 years or so...5 months ago it came back!!!...and again yesturday....Have no clue what triggered that...
