Baby Garter snakes(Thamnophis radix)

This is an awesome group of babies. They are so calm and used to me. They are very interested in what I'm doing. At one point I had about 5 of them on the camera and in my hands. I was fortunate to rescue the mother's of these babies.

I just got two of these snakes and they are about 2months old. THey look like your snakes. Anyway I have had them for about 5 days, was told they eat minnow. So far they don't eat anything. What do you feed yours? How deep is their water dish? THanks

@mosaicglass Minnows can carry a pretty heavy parasite load and have thiaminase which will kill your snakes in the end. Guppies are a safe live fish to feed. Night crawlers are usually a good choice for garter snake. Earth worms, slugs are also on most diets.

New snakes can take awhile to get settled in so not eating is to be expected. For very young snakes I have a ground level water dish 1/2 inch deep. Once they are older my deepest dish is 3 inches. More questions, tradixranch@cox.net

How do you tame them so well?

@vanillacokeit  They get a lot of hands on time. Many times they will ignore the food dish and come to me first. They've been hand fed so much they figure that's what they'll get every time.
