Since launching this campaign in 1983, more than 68% of Americans exposed to the advertising have tried to prevent someone from driving drunk. In 1998, America experienced its lowest number of alcohol-related fatalities since the U.S. Department of Transportation began keeping records. Campaign taglines have included: "Drinking & Driving Can Kill A Friendship" and "Friends Don't Let Friends Drive Drunk."

  • I was born in 1979, so I was about 4 when I first saw this. We had this 19" Black/white TV and it was right before the show Cheers came on one evening. When I first saw it, I was traumatized. Not as bad as some kids might have been. I didn't loose any sleep from it. But I remember being scared to drink anything in the car. Mom laughed and said that it only meant if you are drinking the 'bad-drinks' your Dad drinks. It nevered bothered me afterwards. This commercial should've been Rated R. LOL!!

  • What? No "Thriller"?

  • Drinking and driving: it evidently turns your car into that bomb the Green Goblin threw at his board of directors in the Spider-man movie.
