In the good ol days (1950's) the richest of us paid a max tax rate of 91% at the upper end of their income. Our nation paid off the WWII war bonds, GI Bill to house and educate returning GI's, rebuilt Europe, paid for the Korean War, built the Cold War machine, the space program, the interstate highway system. In the 60's, the Peace Corp, the Vietnam War, the war on poverty and a bunch of other stuff. We built a confident nation and said in truth we were #1. And the rich still got rich.
