Here is another video of me on my 2006 BMW F650 GS Dakar on the trails throughout the old army base near my hometown.

Incase you are wondering, I was running pair of Metzler Karoo tyres -- a 17' 90/90 up front and a 21' 130/80 on the rear. I found them to be a 'decent' offroad tire, quite capable in loose dirt and on hardpacked surfaces. However, they are ill-suited for the sand and slippery mud, lack good self-cleaning properties which tends to inhibit traction, and they offer little to no traction in the rutted, slippery waterholes I was going through -- or perhaps I just need more practice as a rider...The video ends abruptly with me taking a spill in one of the waterholes! I turned the camera while I was fixing my rear brake pedal which got bent out of place by the spill!

The quality of the video is absolutely brutal -- I was only using a Nikkon Coolpix 5MP camera which I duct taped behind my windscreen. The video conversion I had to do in order to edit it ruined the quality even further. The annoying vibration noises you hear aren't the bike, but the camera vibrating against the windscreen. But, the little camera did the trick I guess!

I welcome any comments and/or advice. Enjoy!

  • how did u get you camera mounted on your dirtbike?

  • Duct tape! :)

  • hey, i was up there today! it was a bit chilly though. anyways, i'm sure you know about the dirtbike track. well a few friends of mine were up there today and we spotted a bunch of weird rusted objects that looked like mufflers. i'm pretty sure they might be bombs. do you have any idea what they are, they're right up by the two big jumps. PLEASE REPLY!

  • If they look like mufflers I doubt they're bombs or unexploded ordinance. However, it is an old military base so I suppose there is an off chance they could be something dangerous. In any case I would try to avoid them...
