He had more that enough yo deploy his chute successfully... he was high enough to even start with a slow flip. If the height to deploy a chute was not enough or it was a "red line" jump, he would start with the open wing.

The cause of this was some malfunction that we can at most speculate to be lousy chute packing, small pilot chute... maybe other equipment failure or whatever. But anyway, the point is that the height was rather suitable to the jump.

BTW those who think the height was not enough, well it was enough. Maybe he packed his chute by himself without allot of experience. Or the pilot chute was too small.

P.S. go chk out other base jumping videos and see how fast a chute of a base jumper opens.
