Discworld Convention 2010 Part 1 (with Intro from Terry Pratchett!)

EXPLANATIONS FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T READ THE DISCWORLD BOOKS:
- Tiffany Aching, Magrat Garlick and Granny Weatherwax are all characters from the Discworld Series.
- 'The Luggage' is a sentient suitcase on legs, which follows its owner around and eats anyone who might try to mess with said owner.
- In the Discworld, dragons have very volatile bodies, and are liable to explode at the drop of a hat.
- 'Clacks' are the Discworld's way of sending messages over long distances.
- The reading at the beginning of the opening ceremony is from a Discworld book, and is about the Dwarven tradition of Knocker men, who clear the mines of poisonous gas by igniting said gas, often dying in the process.
- Stephen Briggs writes the Adaptions for Stage of the Discworld books, and is well known among the fandom.
- Bernard Pearson, also known as 'The Cunning Artificer', makes Discworld sculptures and is also known well among the fans of the Discworld books.
- The Alchemist's Guild and the Unseen University are both organisations in the Discworld books - the University is where all the wizards are.
- In Discworld, there are lots of equivalents to real-world gadgets, often run by small gnomes, hence the jokes about my laptop being controlled by a gnome.
- The Infinite Monkeys: Ok, this is gonna take a lot of explaining. Basically, you know the probability exercise with the monkey sat typing randomly at a keyboard for eternity, and how at some point the monkey will type Hamlet? In Discworld there's a concept called L-space, which is basically a library with everything that ever has, will and could be written. The man giving the lecture pointed out that a monkey typing randomly is a type of L-space, because it will eventually type everything that ever has, will be or could be written. It was a bit more complicated than that, but amazing to listen to.
- Uberwald and the Sto Plains are both places in the Discworld books.
- In the Discoworld books 'Igor' is the name given to every mad scientist/vampire/werewolf's helper, although often the Igors themselves are actually quite friendly. They are always cobbled together from several different body parts, hence the Igor Teddy Bears made from several different Teddies.
- 'The Wild Earths' is a project that Terry's writing with sci-fi writer Stephen Baxter, about people discovering parallel worlds and colonising them.
- Duck-man is a character in the books, who is completely normal, except for the fact that he has a duck on his head.
- The Election for Low King is the election for the King of the Dwarves. We had a pretend election at the convention, and my friend Feyd came third.

Are you aware that your camera is widescreen and you present your vlogs in the wrong aspect ratio?

Most software will ask you when you are creating a new project which aspect ratio you want. Choose 16:9 and it will be right.
