The motor bracket need to be dismountable for transportation convenience. I make it retractable. Therefore I can pull the motor away from water. In case it hit the ground, the motor can swing up to reduce damage. I utilize Scotty accessories to do the job. I got 5 Scotty flush sealed base mount to mount varites of gears and home make bar. The transom motor connected via ropes to front steering foot rod which the Scotty tripple rod holder providing support for centre connection rod. The foot feeling is solid and very effective to control steering. Here is my final design video link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9Eaz6p0vGk

  • I remember the JW 32lb gave me 9km/hr and the T18s 18lb gave me approx. 5km/hr. The bigger motor needs bigger battery. It has bad impact to your kayak stability & draw more power from you for human paddling. I prefer T18s lighter setup.

  • Nice setup! I am looking to do a similar system but I have too many questions: What type of batteries do you use? Where do you keep them and how do you keep them dry? What kind of range do you get? How do you monitor temperature and charge?

  • Hi

You are watching my old version with 34lb motor. I changed it to smaller 18lb motor which draw 15A. I use 35Ahr battery and it can run about 2 - 3hr. The speed is about 5km/hr.

    Cheers

  • Never tested with gas engine. I have a bigger FishNDive kayak & it is capable to load more gear. I may think about that.

  • I am working on thrid version with Javis Walker Watersnake 54 trolling motor that have wired remote control. Basically I have already finished the work but waiting on good weather totest. The major problem is the weight and running time of motor.

  • @darwincm what is the speed difference between the two motors? I'm thinking about getting a 15lb thrust motor for my 12' ascend but I'm not sure it it will be fast enough. how many amps does the average 30lb motor pull?

  • Good idea! CongratulationS!

  • did you tried it with a 2 hp gas engine, shoul be not bad

  • looks like a kick-ass set-up!
