How to tune your cigar box guitar to open G. Aimed at beginners who have just made one or maybe bought one and having difficulty getting it in tune. My apologies for the rough and ready nature of the vid, I did it straight off the cuff - no rehearsals.

  • stringy - Your right the original players just used what they could find. Main reason for me putting these tunings up are cos I've sold a few and complete newbies probably have no idea how to tune. Also I get asked a lot of times about what strings to use. For the sake of getting the tension somewhere near right so as it doesn't snap the strings or buzz, then this is just a guide. Not sure what B P uses but if I can find out I'll post it. End of the day it's as much about how you play.

  • Zcat - no it's just a sink drainer thingy that goes over the pug-hole that I thought would make a nice soundhole cover. The guitar is purely acoustic

  • In the hay days of the 3 string cig box guitars did they get this technical about string sizes etc? Im just asking because i want the most authentic Delta sound i can achieve shure they never got this tech on it all as they may not have even had access to differnt types of strings maybe even fence wire or fishing line back then. Im going to Subb as i do like your lessons and the 3 string open tunings got me puzzled as their are so many variations. Im after the Ben Prestage type tunning pls help.

  • Thanks for the tips. Great vid. Is that a resonator cone on the guitar or a speaker? If it's a speaker, which amp circuit are you using? Love the tone out of that thing.

  • great video thankyou
