In my opinion, Cervello is the consummate master of this idiom. The violin has ample opportunity to sing melodies of melting poignance and dazzle with brilliant virtuosity. The orchestra contributes greatly, but never covers the solo violin. Cervello's concerto compares favorably with those of Prokofiev and Khatchaturian, but he writes much better for the violin. The concerto is beautifully published by Boileau Editorial.
